AMCC PowerPC-460SX Storage Processor
The 460SX storage processor’s potent hardware/software mix cuts the cost, development time and power involved with both networked and attached storage systems. The lightweight Linux OS and the on-chip hardware offload also frees a good chunk of the PPC processing power for adding whatever higher-layer management software or developing any other value-add functionality your application might need. |
January 2009 - AMCC's Pemaquid Named Product of the Year by Electronic Products Magazine
Metro-Ethernet Framer/Mapper/PHY chip aids move to 10 GbE
In telecommunication systems, the move is on from SONET/SDH to 10 GbE/Optical Transport Networks (OTN). The Pemaquid 10-Gigabit Metro-Ethernet Framer/Mapper/PHY device (S19258) makes that move much easier and does so with a single-chip cost of around $100 in volume instead of the previous multichip solutions for $900.
Targeted at carrier Ethernet and metro WDM transport networks, the chip provides a direct connection between 10G MACs, network processors, or 10-GbE switches, and XFP/SFP+ optical modules. A single Pemaquid can take the place of up to three devices: an FEC/Framer/Mapper, an SFI4.1 to Serial 10G Physical layer, and a bridge connecting the MAC to the Framer/Mapper, and with a power consumption of only 2.5 W.
The chip’s integrated FRACn synthesizer requires only a low-cost external reference oscillator to enable support for all 10G line rates. The IC supports seven 10-GbE mapping modes, provides digital forward error correction and analog electronic dispersion compensation functions, and comes in a small 19 x 19-mm package.
